POSITION: Laundry Worker

Description Summary: Pick up, deliver, sort, wash, dry, fold, stack, and hang resident and facility laundry; knowledge of household and industrial laundry equipment; maintain cleanliness of laundry areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Wash garments and linens in an electrically powered washing machine and adjusts valves to proper temperature. Avoid overloading machines. Report malfunctions of equipment. Ability to distinguish between cotton, wool, synthetics. Use soap or other solutions at appropriate times. Understand function of various soaps, bleaches, softeners, and other chemicals employed in washing and rinsing. Be familiar with proper heat to apply to particular fabrics to prevent damaging material. Transfer washed clothes from washer to dryer and to baskets for distribution. Hang finished garments on hangers or fold and stack garments. Ensure that resident’s clothes are properly identified and labeled with laundry marker. Distribute clothes to resident’s rooms.
· Wear gloves as necessary when handling dirty linens, wash hands after contact with any soiled linen. Wash contaminated linens separately if necessary. Handle, store, process and transport all linens in a manner that will prevent the spread of infection.
· Clean laundry area and equipment. Keep laundry off floor. Clean drain in washroom, dust, sweep and mop barrel room weekly. Remove lint from dryer, dust and disinfect everything in laundry area daily. Clean lint trap on washing machine after washing housekeeping mops.
· Maintain inventory of linens and laundry supplies. Report losses and damages of resident’s laundry. Keep shelves in clean linen room weekly. Straighten resident’s personal clothes in rooms (hanging and in drawers) as needed. Follow resident’s rights policies and maintain confidentiality of resident care at all times.
· Be willing to perform routine tasks on a continuous basis, and keep up the flow of work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Able to read, write and follow instructions;
- knowledge and ability to use household and industrial washers and dryers; knowledge of commercial laundry processes, equipment, and procedures for washing materials.
- Must be able to pass OSBI background check and pre-employment drug screening.
SALARY: Commensurate with Education and work experience.
