Health and Medical Aid

In some instances, tribal elders may need to travel out of state or in state for various medical reasons. The maximum allowable cost is $400.00 with a 4 day maximum travel time. The assistance received is meant to cover gas, food and lodging for the elder. All receipts must be kept and turned into the Elder Care office.

Eyeglasses: The maximum allowance per elder, per year, is $200.00. If you are diabetic you must apply with the Diabetes Wellness program first.

*Exception to assistance one time per year may be made on a case by case basis:

If the elder has recently had eye surgery, including the removal of cataracts and a new prescription is required. The Elder Care Program will pay for new lenses only and not for the frames.

Medical Bills, Medical Supplies, Medical Aides, Dentures and Hearing Aids: Assistance will be provided if these expenses are not covered by other resources. Medicare premiums will be paid by the Elder Care Program. Maximum benefit amount is $300.00 per quarter. In some circumstances the elder may need assistance that exceeds this amount, this will be considered on a case by case basis. The elder will more than likely have to absorb some of the cost of the dentures and hearing aids.
