Description Summary: The cook will prepare, cook and serve adequate, attractive, nutritious and balanced meals, by following planned menus and standardized recipes. Must be able to follow therapeutic diets and prescribed by a physician, willing to follow directions of food service supervisor and dietician.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review menus prior to preparation of food; make sure meat is put in walk in refrigerator, in advance to be properly thawed. Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus that are palatable and appetizing in appearance. Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures, and on a timely basis. Prepare food in a sanitary manner; assure that established infection control policies and procedures are followed by all department personnel as required.
- Prepare food for therapeutic diets as prescribed by a physician. Prepare food by following standardized recipes and special diet orders. Inspect special diet trays to assure they are correct.
- Work with food service supervisor and dietitian and charge nurse as necessary and implement recommended changes as required. Coordinate dietary service with other departments as necessary. Process diet changes and new diets as received from nursing service on written dietary communication form.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with other department personnel to assure that food services can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of cook.
- Must learn the proper use of chemicals and how to read MSDS safety sheets and where they are located.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information to assure residents rights are protected.
- Assure that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner. Report all hazardous conditions equipment to the food service supervisor immediately.
- Do daily and scheduled cleaning duties and initial on cleaning only when completed.
- Assist in inventorying and storing in-coming food and supplies in absence of food service supervisor.
- Willing to help with all work wherever or whatever you are asked to do by your supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Education or GED. Minimum of one year experience employed as a cook. Must pass OSBI background check and pre-employment drug screening.
SALARY: Commensurate with Education and work experience.
